The township has a population of just over 90,000, making it the second-largest township and the 11th-largest community in Michigan. Canton has consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in the country and is one of the fastest growing communities in the state. Considered a suburb of Ann Arbor, Canton is a popular place for families and young professionals to call home, as they may easily access the city via Ford Road. The community comes together with a number of annual events, from Easter events in the spring to a tree-lighting ceremony during the winter. The Canton Farmers’ Market is held at Preservation Park on Sundays between May and October.

The majority of businesses in Canton are located along Ford Road and Michigan Avenue, and the remainder of the township remains residential. Canton is home to the only IKEA location in Michigan, the Canton Historical Museum, The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, and a luxurious movie theater called Emagine Canton. 

Popular parks in Canton include Independence Park, Heritage Park, Flodin Park, Griffin Park and the Canton Dog Park. Heritage Park serves as a community gathering place, as it is home to an amphitheater, a sand volleyball court, the Summit on the Park community center, a splash pad, the Canton Public Library, Pheasant Run Golf Club, and more. The Canton Sports Center is an outdoor sports complex with 12 baseball diamonds, accompanied by an indoor skating rink and an indoor activity complex with sports fields and courts.
